BEFORE & AFTER: OUR KITCHEN

Who doesn’t love a good before and after? Our kitchen was the first room to be completed in our home. The surrounding dining, living and great rooms were (and still are, along with the rest of the house) all in process. It’s been a slow burn to bring each room to life, and I am more than okay with it. It feels right taking my time, intentionally and thoughtfully adding elements to our home. Plus, who has the budget to tackle furnishing and decorating an entire house?! Definitely not us!! And due to that pesky B-word, our kitchen is still missing a few things: window coverings, a rug, art, more plants, a clock, etc. When our finances allow for it, I can start the hunt for options that make my heart go pitter-patter…but until then, I’m more than okay with calling our kitchen “done.”

As you can see below, the old cabinetry layout cut the kitchen in half, making the large kitchen feel quite cramped.

When the dividing wall came down, it felt like a breath of fresh air.

We were more than thrilled to swap out the peninsula for open and airy double islands.

Below shows the only wall of the original kitchen where the layout remained the same. The few changes I made to improve it were increasing the height of the upper cabinetry and losing the cooktop in favor of a range and vent hood.

And here are a few more views that make us smile…

We are so happy with the transformation and the wonderful flow it created throughout the back of our home. We wanted light, bright, open and airy…and that is exactly how our kitchen feels. The space is a true joy to spend time in.
